York - Leaving London King's Cross Station at 7am and arrive at York Station. Here we take a Guide Friday city sightseeing tour of York, its Minster and The Shambles (quaint old alleyways and lanes) where you can later browse in its antique shops, wander around the market or relax in one of the many old coffee shops. The rest of the day is spent at leisure. Why not visit the Jorvik Viking Centre, explored by 'time car' which includes a market, riverbank, dig site, hearth and home, giving a unique insight into the everyday life of the Vikings. Return to see York Minster, notable for its size, the largest medieval church north of the Alps, famous for its wealth of stained glass and St. William's College in more detail. Walk down Kirkgate, a street of Victorian shops, step back in time in the King William pub situated in the Edwardian Half Moon Court and look into complete rooms like the 1953 front room. See the collections of Social History, Military and Costume, housed in two 18th Century buildings and you will even see the condemned cell where Dick Turpin spent his last night. If there's time you could visit Fairfax House, the Merchant Adventurers Hall, National Railway Museum, York Castle Museum or York Art Gallery. Return to York Station to catch train back to London King's Cross Station. This tour is due to arrive back in London in London at approximately 19:15 hrs. |
