Experience the history, mystery and magic of the greatest stone circle in the world !

This special tour begins with a scenic countryside drive along the old London-Bath coaching road taking us into the heart of ancient Britain. Our first stop is at the medieval village of Avebury, which is ringed by the largest stone circle in the world and the product of over 500 years of effort by Neolithic man. Enjoy a unique walking tour of the stone circle where your guide will demonstrate the art of dowsing. Try it yourself and prepare to be amazed! There is also time to explore the picturesque village of Avebury with it's thatched cottages, antiques and beautiful church. Maybe enjoy a cream tea, or a pint in the Red Lion Pub - the only pub in the world in the middle of a prehistoric stone circle.

Afterwards, we take a leisurely walk to West Kennet Long Barrow, one of the largest Neolithic burial tombs in Britain and over 5000 years old. Your guide will take you into the burial chambers and bring it's fascinating history alive. You will also see mysterious Silbury Hill - the largest man made mound in ancient Europe - even after centuries of research archaeologists have still not discovered its original purpose.

We then take a scenic drive over the Marlborough Downs and through the beautiful Pewsey valley. We pass famous white horses carved into the chalk hillsides and picturesque, tucked away villages. We explore the mysterious phenomena of crop circles and take a closer look at any which may be in the area (seasonal).

Our final (and most spectacular) stop is at Stonehenge, standing in lone majesty over Salisbury Plain. Most visitors are not allowed direct access to the stones but we have arranged with English Heritage for privileged access after the site has closed to the general public. There is a chance to visit the souvenir shop before you enter the temple complex . Your guide will explain the history of this ancient site and the many myths and legends that surround it. An early departure from London for our special morning visit to Stonehenge, standing in lone majesty over Salisbury Plain. Most visitors are not allowed direct access to the stones but we have arranged with English Heritage for privileged access before the site opens to the general public. You will spend an hour inside the temple complex where your guide will explain the history of this ancient site and the many myths and legends that surround it. In the beautiful, gothic Chapter House there is the chance to view one of the last remaining copies of the Magna Carta (not available on Sunday mornings). There is also ample opportunity to stroll the streets of this ancient, market town and indulge in some souvenir shopping or perhaps some independent sightseeing.

NEW FOR 2007 (included in our tour will be an exclusive opportunity to climb the cathedral spire)

» KING ARTHUR TOUR MINI COACH TOUR - Including Stonehenge Evening Special Access Tour

PRICE:
99 POUNDS PER ADULT
89 POUNDS PER CHILD (3 - 16 YEARS)

Due to popular demand we are pleased to combine Stonehenge Special Access with our unique and legendary King Arthur tour which we have operated since 1995. Truly a day to remember.

Maybe enjoy a cream tea, or a pint in the Red Lion Pub - the only pub in the world in the middle of a prehistoric stone circle.

Afterwards, we venture into King Arthur's Avalon and explore the mystery, chivalry and romance of King Arthur. Enjoy a leisurely walk up Glastonbury Tor and enjoy breathtaking views from this fabled Isle of Avalon, rich in myth and legend. Imagine how, in distant times where history fades into legend, the Tor was an isolated island surrounded by sea. Depending on weather conditions we will include a 'luxury picnic' on the Tor itself or a traditional Pub meal in the Glastonbury district

Visit the tranquil Chalice Well Gardens - a timeless and sacred place full of legend, symbolism and atmosphere....... a place whose history has no beginning. Drink from the magical red and white springs.

Explore Glastonbury Abbey, the final resting place of King Arthur and his queen, Guinevere and once a major centre of culture and learning. An earlier legend tells of how Joseph of Arimathea brought the Holy Grail to Glastonbury and built a simple church on the site of this great abbey - possibly the first Christian church in England, "the holiest earth in England".

There's also time to savour the special atmosphere of Glastonbury village with its medieval buildings and unusual shops.

We also drive through the Warminster Triangle, a mysterious zone renowned for crop circles and UFO sightings. Hear about the many theories explaining these strange phenomena and take a closer look at any crop circle formations en route (seasonal).

Our final (and most spectacular) stop is at Stonehenge, standing in lone majesty over Salisbury Plain. The Tour:

After your pick-up directly from or near to your hotel (there are centralised pick up points in the main hotel areas), we drive to Bath to visit the Roman Baths and Pump Room. In the late afternoon we visit Lacock for an early evening supper in a 13th century inn, before driving to Stonehenge. As the sun begins to set, we enter the stone circle (which is normally roped off to the public) for a unique private viewing. The most dramatic and atmospheric way of visiting Stonehenge.

On selected days the tour operates in reverse, beginning with a private viewing of Stonehenge before it opens to the public in the morning, so we see the stones in the eerie morning light. This is followed by our visits to Lacock and Bath.

STONEHENGE - PRIVATE VIEWING AT SUNSET AFTER THE CROWDS HAVE GONE HOME

Built nearly 5,000 years ago, Stonehenge is the most popular prehistoric monument in the world. Most visitors to the site are not allowed direct access to the stones. With Premium Tours you get that access, with a private viewing of the mysterious monoliths. We will enter the stone circle itself and stand beside the mighty Sarsen rocks towering above us. Our guide will explain the history of this ancient site, pointing out the altar, slaughter and heel stones, above which the sun rises dramatically on the summer solstice. There will be time to enjoy the peace, away from the crowds, as we experience Stonehenge at its most mystical and atmospheric best. Not to be missed!

    LACOCK

Lacock is a little known, picturesque village dating back to the Saxon era. Many of the beautiful buildings originally formed part of an extensive monastic complex and are now owned by The National Trust. So pretty is the village that it has provided the setting for many movies and television dramas including Jane Austens Pride and Prejudice and more recently Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. We will take a delightful walk before we enjoy an early evening supper* (or breakfast for morning tours*) in The George, a vintage English pub built in 1361.
    *food/drink not included

    BATH

Bath, a world heritage site, is a beautiful Georgian city with delightful crescents, terraces and architecture. There will be plenty of time to visit Bath Abbey, or to shop and explore. Your guide will also conduct an optional walking tour to show you where Charles Dickens lived and worked as a young man, and a give you a chance to sample some delicious cheeses fresh from the local dairy farms. Then we will enter the magnificent Roman Baths, where over one million litres of boiling water still burst free from the hot springs everyday.

    PRICE:
75 POUNDS PER ADULT including relevant entrance fees
68 POUNDS PER CHILD (3 - 16 YEARS) including relevant entrance fees
